Methadone Treatment

We honor take-home privileges for transfer Methadone Patients

At FHS, we believe that the process of recovery from opioid dependency can be aided with the use of the prescription medication Methadone. Methadone is an FDA approved, safe, and effective medication for opioid addiction treatment if taken as prescribed. Established in the early 1970’s, Methadone has been well researched and serves to stabilize a patient from withdraw symptoms and lead to a successful recovery.

Suboxone Treatment

At FHS, we believe that the process of recovery can be aided with the use Suboxone. Suboxone is an FDA approved medication used for the treatment of opioid dependency. Suboxone is a tablet that contains the medications Buprenorphine and Naloxone.

Suboxone allows Freedom Healthcare Services to treat patients in a private, confidential, and safe facility. Suboxone allows our medical and clinical teams to customize a course of treatment for the patient. Suboxone can be taken daily in the privacy of your home. Patients do not need hospitalization, daily visits to the facility, or residential care. Suboxone suppresses symptoms of withdraw, reduces cravings for illicit opioids or prescription medications, blocks the effects of opioids if taken, and helps a patient focus on treatment in the recovery process. Suboxone allows a patient more time for work, family, and other daily activities.

By reducing relapse factors with Suboxone, the FHS medical and clinical teams can focus on assisting the patient to develop a plan to achieve a drug free lifestyle. Patients can address the issues that may have contributed to the addiction, such as depression, anxiety, or other psychiatric conditions.

The length of therapy with Suboxone is determined by the patient and the FHS treatment team. When a patient is ready, Suboxone can be safely decreased or tapered slowly until the medication is no longer necessary. Patients requesting a reduction in medication will work in conjunction with our medical and clinical teams to determine the proper course of action.

In order to be prescribed Suboxone, a patient can arrange an appointment with FHS. FHS will ask the patient to arrive in a state of mild-to-moderate withdraw. FHS will perform a full medical and clinical evaluation to determine the proper level of medication and explain the counseling requirements for the program.

By combing Suboxone with our counseling program, patients have effectively been treated and achieved a drug free lifestyle. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 412-221-1091 to speak with an intake coordinator who can assist you.

Maternity

Freedom Healthcare Services treats pregnant patients who have a narcotic addiction. Initially, any possible pregnant patient that contacts FHS is advised that Methadone Maintenance treatment is the FDA approved form of treatment for an opiate addicted pregnant female.

Our second option for a pregnant patient is Subutex treatment. This form of treatment allows the patient to have the flexibility of a take home prescription and helps stabilize the patient's craving for opiates. FHS provides each pregnant patient on Subutex with individualized psychotherapy services and shall meet the following:

Patients entering the Subutex program will also undergo a 90 day orientation process with 2.5 hours of therapy per month along with two random urine screens.

Any pregnant patient seeking buprenorphine treatment will be switched to Subutex for the safety of the fetus and maintained with no decreases in dose.

A comprehensive maintenance regime is established in each individual case by the program's Medical Director. Educational provisions are made for each pregnant patient in order to fully inform each patient of the possible risk to her or her unborn child if they continue to use illicit drugs.

FHS coordinates the following during a pregnancy:

  • A patient receives referral information for pre-natal care through Magee Womens Hospital or can seek treatment with her own OB/GYN or midwife. A patient also receives educational information developed by staff discussing drug use and pregnancy.
  • Patient are asked to sign releases of information for her OB/GYN/midwife so that FHS staff may coordinate care in order to monitor patient’s pregnancy closely.
  • Nursing staff completes a monthly update with the patient until the ninth month and then begin weekly updates until birth.
  • Medical staff informs the patient that upon admission to the hospital, the hospital should call FHS to confirm patient’s information in order to have continuity of care.

Freedom Healthcare Services ensures that each female patient is fully informed of the risk to her and her unborn child from continued use of illicit drugs. FHS educates a patient on potential risks from use or withdrawal from a narcotic drug which is administered and or dispensed as part of their comprehensive maintenance treatment or detoxification treatment.

Teen Intervention Program

FHS recognizes the community’s concern for substance abuse problems among young people. Our Teen Intervention Program (T.I.P.) provides adolescents, families and loved ones with a supportive, educational, and motivational experience. The program is intended for adolescents between ages 14 and 18 who have encountered legal or other problems related to drug and/or alcohol use as well as teens and families interested in learning more about prevention. Outlined over a 5 week period, the program involves a comprehensive evaluation, multiple psycho-educational groups, individual counseling, and a family group component.

Intensive Outpatient Counseling

At FHS, we realize that recovery is a process. Individuals who receive treatment may need various levels of intervention to assist in achieving and maintaining sobriety. We have developed an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) designed to help those patients. This program insures structure, support, and availability of multiple treatments. The IOP will meet three times a week and includes Group Therapy, Individual therapy sessions, and other supportive Interventions.

Groups will focus on issues such as relapse prevention, disease concept of addiction, co-occurring disorders, family issues, developing recovery support systems, craving management, and medication compliance. Individual sessions will further develop the relationship between patients and their counselors in order to help them personally understand the recovery process. Intervention treatment includes psycho-education, psychotherapy, role-play, small group activities, worksheets, recovery games, videos, and informational journals.

Drug Free Counseling

Treatment for the disease of addiction does not necessarily require a medication-assisted regimen. FHS offers drug free outpatient counseling services for patients and their families. The drug free program as FHS allows our clinical team to address opiate addiction along with any other addictions without the use of medication. The program provides drug and alcohol evaluations, individual and group therapy, an intensive outpatient program and family programming.

This program addresses the issues surrounding addiction and educates participants regarding the recovery process. As a result, participants will receive support, guidance, education, and referrals to continue the process of recovery started here at Freedom Healthcare Services.
