DON’T MAKE A RESOLUTION

Instead, create an environment for change.

We should stop falling into the same rut, year after year, of making resolutions that are doomed to be unfulfilled. According to Forbes, only a whopping 8% of people achieve their New Year’s resolutions.

Maybe it’s time to come at this failure to follow through from another angle. This year, let’s not make a resolution and instead create surroundings that are conducive for positive transformation. “How,” you ask? A good way to start is by simplifying our environment. Getting back to basics can not only clear up our space, but it can free up our mind. Look around your home and identify what is no longer useful (remember, this can sometimes apply to people and circumstances too).

Clutter and disorganization cause stress that can weigh us down, distract us and prevent us from achieving our goals. If you haven’t worn it, touched it, or looked at in the past year, let it go! . . .

So keep in mind, a resolution is just a declaration. But, it’s possible to make lasting change by doing some necessary groundwork.

For those with addiction, it is especially important to nurture an environment to overcome old habits. Seeking professional help is the first step in creating a strong foundation for treatment, by tapping into sources that will give the tools and support needed to continue down the road of recovery. There are always things, places and people that can make us more likely to fall back into old habits. Clearing out the old to make way for the new can be invaluable. Heading into the new year is a perfect time to make a fresh start.
